Nab a deal on a retirement home

Shortly after Karlene Anderson retired in 2007, she and husband John decided they should relocate from Danbury, Conn., to be near their son and grandchildren in Atlanta. Given that they had never lived in the area, the Andersons figured they'd rent for quite a while. But as home prices tumbled, the couple decided to pull the trigger on a purchase.

Are we protected enough?

Though Carol still works to maintain health insurance for the couple -- Jim retired from banking in 2003 -- the Nelsons are able to get away two to three times a year to go on missions with their church and Rotary International. Bridge income gaps with an annuity
Question: My husband recently retired and we are in the process of deciding how to invest the money in his 401(k). He and I both have good pension plans and I plan to work at least another five years. We have been advised to invest two-thirds of my husband's 401(k) assets in annuities, but I'm comfortable with putting only a third in annuities. Any advice? -- Jean, Omaha, Nebraska
